The new Bates flag was presented at the all school assembly two students from Bates created the design. The stars on the flag represent each classroom at Bates school. On the Friday assembly, Sophie's brother sang and danced to the song Dynamite! He did a fantastic job!
The mini-marathon raised over 9,000 dollars!!The money benefits the METCO program.

Can anyone say fun???? The kids had a fantastic time particpating in the Bates Mini-Marathon!! A big THANKS to all the parent helpers and teachers who made this day special. Everyone in KC ran around Bates school 3 times. Some kids ran around 4, 5 and I think maybe 6 laps!!! Kids were tired and very proud!!
At large group time a favorite activity has been SECRET SENTENCE time!Working together we read the words and figure out where they belong. We have been learning that a sentences begins with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark.

Many students are writing books about the Solar System. During large group time we read the story The Planets and created a Facts~Questions~Respond chart below.
The following are some of the math station this week. We have also been going on shape walks looking for 3 D shapes. We have been looking for shapes that are spheres, cubes, cylinders and cones. Your child will be bringing home a sheet on Monday to record 3 D Shape in your home. Next week we will be starting a new math unit called Addition, Subtraction, and the Number system.

The kids went outside with Ms.Fyvie to practice for the Mini-Marathon on Thursday. Thanks for all the parent helpers for this event! We will participate on Thursday from 9-9:30.
Everyone wants to share their writing workshop stories! This week everyone could pick one story they wanted to share from their folder. We practice reading our stories to friends. We hope you enjoy. On some of the stories you may not see all the word because we have been using Spider Legs. Ask you child what a Spider Leg is?? This is half of the class. On Monday I will post the second half.
I loved the Leprechaun stories and asked for those stories to be shared!!
