ABC Countdown

Tomorrow starts our ABC Countdown. Your child came home with this calendar in their backpack today. This is a fun way to end the year. Do not worry if your child does not have an item on the calendar for that particular day or is not interested in participating. We will continue to teach our regular curriculum, but this will be in addition to our regular routine. The kids were really excited about starting this tomorrow. This week we have Arts Extravaganza on Wednesday. We also have a nature walk on Friday afternoon.

Cino de Mayo

A special thanks to all the parent helpers! The kids had a great day.

Math Time This Week

The Queen of Ten came for a visit this week!! She forgot her wand so she had students make her one. Her wand has two colors and equals ten. Students helped make cube wands using red and green cubes. We had 9 greens and 1 red. Ask your child some of the other combinations we came up with. Next week we will be having an Alphabet Countdown!! Starting on Tuesday we will celebrating the last 26 days of school. A sheet will be sent  home on Monday.  Tuesday we will start with the letter A so in class we plan to make an Awesome Art project!
Students were making cubes sticks like the Queen of Ten at choice time.
Measuring our bodies

Working with a partner we worked on Inventory Bags. Students had to figure how many items in their bag and record how many.

Whole Body Listening

In our classroom's most recent Open Circle Mr. Voss joined us to talk about Whole Body Listening again and introduce a new check-in chart to help kids focus on some of the important points of being in a group: choosing a good spot (where you won't get distracted); using Whole Body Listening (paying attention and staying still); and, raising hands (instead of speaking out of turn).

Habitats

We started our Science unit on habitats. This week we looked around the room finding things that are living and nonliving. We made a circle map of what it means to be living. Working with a partner we looked at habitat books and labeled pictures with Post Its.

We have been adding plants to our classroom habitat. We started with water and gravel.

We added Elodea and Duckweed.
