Fall Story Hour

Everyone had a great time wearing their PJ's to school on Tuesday! We went on a Fall Story Walk visiting each kindergarten classroom listening to different fall stories and learning some fall songs.

We went to KM first. Ms. McMahon read a funny story about a Turkey. We went into KC next, Mrs. Clancy read a funny story about a spider. We also learned a new song called Thanks A Lot and The Earth.

Mrs. Mead read a funny story about Thanksgiving! Ask your child what was their favorite fall book and why!

 We loved wearing our PJ's!!
A few students suggested we do this again in the winter!

Queen of Ten

The journal was illustrated by Luke and Matthew. I love how they put two Circle Maps to show you that the Queen of Ten came to the class with her ten cube wand.

The Queen of Ten came to our class today! It was the 40th day of school. We did 40 exercises!!!
Look at our Ten Frames!! We recorded 4 groups of ten in our Queen of Ten journals.

 Monday Morning Message
What do you notice about the message today?
Some HEART words are, like, to and go. We figured out the beginning of the message together. Did the message begin with Dear Class, Dear Friends or Dear Children?? We had to look at the beginning letter sounds. We have been talking about how the letter Y sometimes make the sound of E. We have been learning that every word has a vowel. We circled some vowels on the message today.

Bubble Bag
Can you guess what is in the Bubble Bag? This was very tricky!! We had some great guesses.

Daily 5 in KC

Our classroom has a Literacy CAFE Menu posted that contains strategies good readers use when reading. In class, we compared our Literacy CAFE menu to a menu at a restaurant. We discussed how the food we order at a restaurant depends on the time of day, how hungry we are, and what we like to eat. This compares to our classroom CAFE menu because as readers we use the strategies we need at the time to help us successfully read and comprehend. CAFE is an acronym that stands for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding vocabulary. These become our goals and the strategies we use to be successful with our goals are posted below them. Each child has goals and strategies specific to his/her needs and therefore will get the direct instruction needed to move forward and become a successful reader.

 CAFE board
We are learning that Good Readers always use the picture when they start to read a book. We are asking ourselves Do the words and picture match?
Good readers practice and read again and again.
We keep track of how many times we have read a book with a Post-It on the back of the book!

Good Readers stop frequently to check for understanding.
Daily 5 in Action!
