IS Black Really Black???
Science Investigation Question
What colors do you think make up the color black?
Working in small groups we tried to figure out what colors make up the color black. We did this experiment on the stay day afternoons with KG. We returned to this activity for a second time with the whole class. Not every group experiment worked!! We talked at large group time about how this really happens with scientist and that sometimes you have to change something in the experiment to get results.
We also figured out what colors make up the color brown.
This Plus That
What comes after 1 + 1? Just about anything! In this fanciful collection, Amy Krouse Rosenthal puts together unexpected combinations that always add up to something special. Whether it's "wishes + frosting = birthday" or "birds + buds = spring," each equation is a small delight. This Plus That shows again and again that life's total experience is always greater than the sum of its parts.
We made our own version of This Plus That

Sticky Dot Details
We are learning about Sticky Dot details. This mini lesson uses a manipulative-sticky dots-as an incentive to add details to a topic. Students have been encourage to think about two details. When a student has a detail they get a sticky dot on the back of their hand. The dots are then used to remind them to write the details down on paper. After each detail the student will place a sticky dot. Not only does it serve as a reminder of the detail needed when writing, but it aides in the planning before writing.

Words Words Words
During large group time we have been reading many Amy Krouse Rosenthal books! The following are WOW words we talked about from her stories.
Thanks A Lot
We have been learning the song Thanks A Lot by Raffi. Working with a partner we made illustrations to go with different parts of the song. The illustrations came out beautiful!!

Patterns
We went on an observation walk last week looking for patterns on the playground.
At large group time we have been creating rhythmic patterns. For example: Clap, clap, slap(legs);clap, clap, slap...During math workshop last week, we created and recorded patterns with cube sticks.

Science Investigation
The children worked as Scientist this week. We learned that scientist observe things (they look very closely at them), and describe them (tell about them) to other scientist. We worked on building a chart of descriptive vocabulary-words that help us tell about what we observed.
We described objects by color, shape and size. We also created words to describe how the objects felt.
Some of the objects we used during the investigation.
