Science Investigation This Week

Exploring Surface Tension 

 How many drops of water can you put on a penny?

What were we trying to do with the cup of water and pennies?

 What happened when we put a drop of soap in the middle of the milk and food coloring?

Problem Solving in Math

We played a fun game with the Rekenrek called Quick Images!   

We will be collecting BOX TOPS!! Your child brought home a sheet that you can put the BOX TOPS  on (you could always send them in a baggie).  We hope to collect at least 100 BOX TOPS before the 100 day! Hadley brought in a bag full of BOX TOPS on Friday. We plan on counting them next week!

Go Pats!

 We finished our math unit focusing on Patterns. At the beginning of the week we worked on Pattern Books and Pattern Story Problems. We started a new math unit focusing on Measurement.

Science
This week we started our Water Unit Investigations. We made a Thinking Map of What We know About Water.

Writing Workshop
For the last few weeks we have been learning about procedural text.
Procedural texts tell the reader how to make something, do somethings, complete a process, or accomplish any task that requires several steps. Students worked with a partner to create procedural posters on What to do at Dsmissal Time! The kids loved sharing with the class. On a different day this week we started writing "How-To's".

The Kid On the Block Puppet Show 
We had a special puppet show on Friday.  This show focused on teaching children about accepting differences. Gabe's mom was one of the puppeteers!!!
