New Author Study Nancy Carlson

About Nancy Carlson's Books
Nancy believes that life should be fun for everyone, but especially for children. This optimistic message permeates her picture books and provides a positive counterpoint to much of what children are influenced by in today's society. Her characters aren't always perfect. They often have fears, anxieties, and disabilities. Through her books, kids learn to cope with different challenges. They can learn that they don't have to be perfect to be a good person. Her characters also convey positive messages without being "preachy". They gently remind children what is right.
Reading Response: Write and draw something special about you! What do you like best about you?
We are making a story called How To Win Many Friends
Reading Response: If we had Show In Tell in KC what important item would you bring in? A few children really want to have a Show In Tell Day !

Rosemary Wells Problems and Solutions

We have had lots of discussion on how we notice her main characters are animals but act like people. Her stories often have problems and solutions. We have been making many text to self connections and text to text connections. This week we focused on reading the books connected to Timothy and the students from Mrs. Jenkins class. We love reading books starring Yoko. Below are some of our problem and solutions from the story Yoko's World of Kindness, this is a chapter books that focuses each chapter on a different problems in the classroom.
