Living and Nonliving Things

We are learning about living and nonliving things
Some kids wondered...
Is the rain living or nonliving?
Is a branch living or nonliving?
Is a rock living or nonliving?
We found some living things on the playground today.
We will find out the answer to our questions this week.
Guiding Question: What makes something living or nonliving?
The children worked in small groups labeling living and nonliving things in our habitat books. We shared some of our findings in the video below.

Rocks

For Science this week we continue to record changes in our Mold Gardens we also did an observation on a rock. We passed the rock around the circle and each child used one word to describe the rock.

Passing the rock around and using one word to describe it.

We did a Science observation sheet and used our class properties chart to help!
We read these books about Rocks.

Water Investigation

This weeks Science Investigation focused on Erosion! Ask you child to tell you what we did in this experiment! What happened to the hills we built with sand? We did we learn about trees and walls near beaches? How powerful can water be?

Mold Gardens!

Water Investigations

Sink and Floating
The goal of this experience is to explore the ways some materials float and sink. We made predictions of what objects would sink or float and why???
We tested many different objects.

Water Drop Races
For this investigation, we explored the speed of movement of drops of water on a ramp.
Why do drops of water move down the ramp?
What would make the drops move down the ramp slower?
Do big drops move down the ramp faster or slower than the small drops/

Water's "Skin"
Exploring Surface Tension
In this experience the children explored the ability of water to hold together like a sheet. Our Voice Thread below will share some of the investigations we did!!
