The Queen of Ten

On Tuesday the Queen of Ten visited our classroom she LOVES math and was very impressed with all of the math investigations we are doing in KC!

The Queen of Ten left special journals to record some of the things we learned from her! The Math Problem of The Day was about the Queen!

When the Queen left we recorded in our journals!

We wrote a sentence about the Queen coming in our Learning Journal.

On Wednesday we learned about Bucket Filling!

 We read the book
Ask your child what it means to be a bucket filler?
We worked with a partner drawing pictures of ways we can fill someones bucket!
We are working on painting Todd Parr people. We read lots of Todd Parr books this week. Ask your child what Todd Parr book did they like best?

This Week in KC

Monday

On Monday we had Mystery Monday we had to figure out what was in the Bubble Bag!
Lots of kids in KC thought it had to be a rock! See if you can guess, what do you think is in the bubble bag? If you need to, let your child give you another clue. The clues are words that describe what is inside the bag.

We also learned about writing workshop. Everyone started a writing story. Mrs. Clancy shared a story
about her cat pumpkin(from childhood). We learned about the different ways to write in kindergarten.
The chart below helps us remember the different ways to write in kindergarten.
What is your story about?
Tuesday
The morning message on Tuesday had a survey question
Would you rather fly or become invisible?
We read the book Which Would You Rather Be? We record our answers in our class Learning Journal before dismissal.  Do you remember the results?Did more kids want to fly or be invisible?
Mrs. Clancy writes a morning message each day. Tell someone in your family what Mrs. Clancy writes about?
Wednesday
We went apple picking on Wednesday. We made a Voice Thread about our favorite part of the trip.We worked on these pictures on Thursday and recorded our voices on Friday. Press play on the arrow.

Thursday
The problem of the day focused on apple picking. We solved this problem using a HUGE tens frame. The picture below shows how we solved this problem.

The problem of the day
Gabe picked two apples, Abby picked three apples and Helen picked five. How many apples?
We are learning different ways to solve problems. This was fun!
 Friday
We met our 3rd grade Buddies! We made a Double Bubble that you will see at Back to School Night.
At the end of the day we had Candle Time. Each child has a turn to share their favorite part of the week. On Tuesday morning we will have candle time and share one thing about our weekend. Mrs. Clancy wanted to share our responses but forget to take a picture! We will share next week!

The First Week of Kindergarten!

At the end of each day we record what we have learned  in our  kindergarten class Learning Journal! You can see on the first day we were really busy! We read the story The Gingerbread Man Loose In School. We drew pictures of the first day of school. We learned about a Circle Map.
Mrs. Clancy brainstormed different things about herself on a Circle Map. She put her name in the middle and drew pictures in the circle. We made individual Circle Maps about ourselves! What is something you put on your Circle Map?

On the second day of school our class Gingerbread Man went missing!! Tell someone in your family the different places we went looking for him.  At meeting time, Mrs. Clancy shared a story about her dog Sophie. We worked with a partner telling stories.

Mrs. Clancy worked on this story for the first few days of school. We also learned the different ways to read a book in kindergarten. This anchor chart below helps us remember.
